WHEN is the movie adaption of UA going to be released?

Sweet mother of… OTHER book adaptions you can FIND stuff about. What is it with skyone, mob film and others involved being all quiet about it?

I know!  The most I’ve been able to find is that it’s supposed to be this Christmas…but shouldn’t we have some kind of casting news by now?  Do we even know who’s directing it?

I mostly liked UA, but I do see what you mean.  It felt strange to have all the football-playing and its attendant culture come out of nowhere, and while I get why Pterry wanted to introduce orcs, that definitely felt a little…left-field to me.  I think I’d have been okay with it if that had got a little more foreshadowing at the start of the book.  (The Furies, on the other hand, would probably have confused me no matter what.  They’re a Greek mythical beast, what are they doing coming from Überwald?)  I’m all right with Nutt being “over-powered,” though—I think that’s necessary if he’s going to be the opposite of the traditional fantasy orc, which seems like it was a big part of his purpose in existing.

Mostly, though, I think I liked the book for the human kids.  :D  It’s fun to see characters in books who are in their late teens/early twenties and act like it, and I thought Glenda, Jools, and Trev (and Carter and Andy, too, I guess) pulled that off.

TFLN Spam: Andy edition

My whole obsession with fandom-specific TFLN jokes didn’t start with all the text-as-caption tumblrs I follow.  It started with this:

(507): All I could understand from his text was “hatchet” “soccer” & “bitch”.  its safe to say andy has had enough to drink & will be violent soon

Now I can’t wait for the rumored Unseen Academicals miniseries to come out, not least so I can exploit all of these:

(678): I got lit on fire and andy went to jail last night. Totally unrelated incidents though.

(616): Something growled at me in your dark backyard last nt.  Hoping it was my landwalking laser sharks and not Andy.

(914): last night you decided it was time to “get organized” and “straighten out your life.” You pulled out a bag of troll dolls, sorted through them and got nostalgic. You demanded both andy and i take one and keep it forever.

(319): We asked “Is that Andy puking in the bushes, its 7 AM” he looks up and goes “It’s okay guys, its 7:30”

(602): We’re going clubbing with matching soccer jerseys on.
(480): What will that accomplish?
(602): It will accomplish clubbing with matching soccer jerseys on.

(443): its taking every last moral i have not to steal this bike
(303): you still have morals?
(443): Well actually itd just be too hard to ride the bike with this large rake i just stole
